Seattle to Ellensburg

Sunday, July 7 Day 76 (cont'd)

After leaving the Gryfalcon, we headed down I -5 to pick up I-90 heading East.  We caught a glimpse of the Space Needle in the distance.

And, onto I-90, across one of Seattle's famous floating bridges.

Before long we are approaching Snoqualmie Pass.   The day after we got married, we tackled this pass in driving snow, 44 inches in 24 hours.  The windows were iced over and through a crack in the window, I guided John along, walking on foot next to the car as we tried to get over the Pass.  We have been here many times in hazardous conditions, but today is beautiful and no snow in sight!

The cascade mountsins are truly spectacular.

We hit traffic coming the other way on the eastern side of Cle Elum.  (My family lived there for awhile.) Cars were backed up for miles, as they slowed to a crawl.  It was the end of the long 4th of July weekend and everyone was headed home.  I can't imagine when they got there.

We dropped down into the Ellensburg valley.  This is home to a large grass-fed beef industry.  Stuart Anderson's restaurants grew their Black Angus beef.   I know they also have long horns  and "beefaloe" here now.

This is the Yakima River - let's say it all together -- it's HIGH.   We  stopped here for tonight after a long day.  The park we stopped at had no redeeming qualitities whoatsoever, except a hot shower.  And rain!  Oh well.
