Blue Ridge Parkway North Carolina

Tuesday, May 7, Day 15 (cont'd)

It had been raining pretty hard when we entered the Blue Ridge Parkway

The fog is settling in patches, but it is running up the mountain, rather than moving down to the low areas.

This road literally runs along the rim of the mountains, and there are vistas as far as the eye can see on either side.

The trees haven't started to bud out yet, so they have these bright green trucks covered with moss, and red branches above that.  They are really unusual.

I was astounded to see all of these rhododendrons along the road, and covering the mountains. Turns out, they bloom in late June or early July and blanket the hillsides.  Can you imagine what a spectacular sight that is!

Since we won't be here, I took the liberty of getting this picture off the internet as an example.  I imagine its wall to wall cars then, but it would be worth it!

This is such a pretty road.  We are enjoying it despite the rain.  And the cold.  I know - broken record!
