Carolina Chocolate Drops

Just before we left Susan and Jack's house, and were discussing our route, which will take us through Jackson, Mississippi,   Susan said we should hear the song "Jackson" by a group called the Carolina Chocolate Drops.  They played it on an Austin City Limits to Willie Nelson.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops were formed in 2005 and in 2010 won a grammy of the Best Traditional Folk Album.  They are one of only two full time African American string bands. They play banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica, snare drum, bones, jug and kazoo.

When we watched their rendition of "Jackson," it just blew us away.  Look on You Tube for videos of their performances. I couldn't find a decent recording of the Austin City Limits special, but there are several others.

If June Carter and Johnny Cash are watching from somewhere, they would be saying, "Dang.  We really didn't do justice to that song! "
