Tuesday June 4, Day 43
Up early and out of Liz's as they depart for work and school.
Trivia question: How many states border Massachusetts? New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Today we will be crossing through New Hampshire to get to Maine.
It's raining out, but despite the rain, we are enjoying the scenery.
The first thing that happens when you cross over into New Hampshire, is that there are big, official state signs for liquor stores.
These are state owned, sell liquor at a good price, and because they are accessible from several nearby states, they do a booming business with people crossing state lines. They line the entire Highway 95. And you can get your state lottery ticket here, too. We did see a man from Florida load up his car, so it attracts more than just the surrounding state's citizens.
We stopped in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, found a park by the beach, and enjoyed seeing several lighthouses.
This area is so typical of the New England coast line.
Lobster season has just started, so these lobster traps will be heading out to sea.
Some typical scenery along the way in Portsmouth.
New Hampshire is also home to L.L. Bean, so we couldn't resist stopping at the flagship store in Freeport.
This is a family owned business, and just within the last two weeks, the leadership changed. The original founder's nephew had been running the business for the last 45 years, and has turned it over to a grandson of the original founder. By the way, the "L.L." stands for Leonwood, Linwood or Leonard, depending on which website you look at.
After LL Beans, we head toward BoothBay. We pass through Wicasset and see the famous Red's Eats. We'll be back!
Just tranquil boats and houses. This boat is also getting those lobster traps ready.
It will be good to stop for the night.
