Into Natchez

Thursday, May 2, Day 10

Storm clouds are gathering as we make our way north toward Natchez.

The fields are already drenched.  The corn is about 12 inches high here and standing in water.

This looks like swamp land in Florida near the Everglades

We finally reach the Mississippi River.  It is foggy and rainy, and the temperature is dropping. There is an arctic front coming all across the country, bringing snow, rain and low temperatures.

We took a walk along a beautiful  new walk across the river from Natchez.  This is low lying country with cotton fields.  The plantation owners built their homes on the Natchez side on the bluffs that stand about 250 feet above the water line. Natchez is across that bridge.

There are signs along the water front, but this one caught my eye.  Bowie was such an iconic figure for all of the southwest and the west.  I guess he made an impact in Natchez.

John tried out his new boots and rain hat.

 Friday,  May 3,  Day 11

We are ready to cross the bridge you see in the pictures above.  And the Mississippi River.

Just over the bridge is the welcome sign to Mississippi

We stopped at the Natchez visitors' center to get information for the next phase of our trip  The Natchez Trace.
