1000 Islands and the St. Lawrence Seaway

Wednesday, July 12, Day 51 (cont'd)

We have ended up at  Wellesley Island, which is in the St. Lawrence Seaway, between the US and Canada.  The border goes right down the middle of the Seaway.  We are at 1000 Island Park.

We had to cross this toll bridge to get there.  There are five such bridges in the area.  Prior to that, all transportation was by private boat or ferry.

The bridge is now 75 years old, and looks and feels like it!  Pretty narrow!

And here's the St. Lawrence River/Seaway.  We didn't see any big commercial freighters the whole time.

While John was checking in, I spotted this pair of Osprey, who were in a dead tree very close to their nest.

We spotted this woodchuck on the way to our campground.  He was big - almost as big as a beaver.

We had the most perfect spot in the whole campground, with a beautiful view of the water and one of the islands.   And this spectacular sunset lasted for several hours.  I finally quit watching about 10 p.m.  This is one of the things I miss the most about not living in a northern latitude.

After the sun set, the sky continued to get redder.
