Boothbay, Maine

Tuesday, June 4, Day 43

Last night, we arrived in Maine, Boothbay, to be exact, where we spent the night.
Hey, do you remember what the outline of Maine looked like in your school geography books?
I remember it looking like this...

But in reality, Maine has this tremendous coast line, full of islands and harbors and inlets.

It was a beautiful day when we got up and headed down to the water.  There were so many little areas worth exploring as we got to the tip of this peninsula.    We heard our first Maine accent as we were greeted with, "Mawnin'."

All of these views are from the same place in front of our campsite.

I think this seaweed must be like that in the Sargasso Sea.

This strange looking boat came along and we figured out he was resetting buoys.  It was quite a process to watch, since the buoy is attached to a huge piece of granite on the ocean floor, coupled with 55 feet of heavy chain.  Nevertheless, the buoys have shifted over the winter and need to be reset.

This type of lichen and spongy moss reminds me of Alaska, only no permafrost.  Mosquitoes, yes!!!

We are nestled among the trees, and would love to stay and explore in this area.  But we have plans to head on to Bar Harbor.
