Crops

The  4 1/2 inches of rain this area had already gotten this month has left many crops standing in the water.  The article in the local newspaper lamented the plight of the farmers.   As one farmer put it, "You're always too something:  too hot, too dry, too cold, too wet, too early too late."  The rain ha delayed putting in some crops, while it has stopped others like hay from being harvested.  Pumpkins are a problem because they should already be planted, but if they have been planted there is danger of fungus.  Apples and grapes are also susceptible to mildew.

Potatoes, onions and carrots are in danger of not getting enough oxygen to the roots, since they are underwater.  Sweet corn, tomatoes, beans, melons and cucumbers have all been delayed in being planted. The cold and wet have also kept insects from pollinating.

Everything we see is filled to the brim

And ready to overflow.
